Delores In the Sunroom

I wanted to move the candlestick on the table a bit more to the left but Delores had other plans.
Delores was a rescue kitty. The shelter planned to euthanize her because it was claimed she had bitten her owner's child.
She was extremely frightened in the shelter and bit her handler.
I begged.
They relented.
She has never bitten any of us.
She has a playful nip that many young cats do but she never bites.

We are so blessed and grateful be a part of her world.

View of the sunroom from the breakfast room.
Most everything in this room is from Craigslist, except Delores.  She came from Heaven.  lol

This, That and the Other...

Funny.  It didn't seem like I had been gone very long.

Rather than try to explain where I was, I figure I will do it with pictures.  lol

These are all the projects I am currently working on...well the ones I stopped to take photos of, anyhow.
There are lots more.  Lots and lots.

Also, my account was, once again, hacked.  They didn't do anything with it.  They just had control of it and I didn't.
Interesting hobby.  Hacking things just to hack them.

Then Handsome Husband fought the law of gravity and the Law won.
Eight staples in his handsome head.

He fell out of bed.  Nothing more.  He asked that I mention Ninjas may have been involved to make it seem more manly.
If you see him please indicate that I mentioned Ninjas.

Then that whole thing with me passing out on the expressway due to carbon monoxide poisoning.  No Ninjas were involved.

...and months of relentless vertigo, not from the carbon monoxide. Or Ninjas.
On the bright side, we have had brain scans, chest scans, scans of scans and scans of those scans.
They found nothing amiss.

...and the library.  The desk formerly belonged to Rush Limbaugh's uncle.

Painting garden furniture...

Painting indoor furniture...

Trimming the parterre...

Remember when the parterre was a wee baby?

The chest from my last post finally made it up to the master bedroom!

...and more ormolu...

Cleaning up the mystery thing...

We named this chest "Belle" after Beauty and the Beast.  It reminded us of the beautiful set.

Hoping this post finds you in good health and good spirits!

I am off to try to train Ninjas to dust and trim hedges.
I mean, if they insist on hanging around they may as well be useful.

Sleeping Beauty!

Tune in later this week and I will show you how this free Craigslist highboy...

Became "La Belle au Bois Dormant", or "TheBeauty Sleeping in the Wood".

This is actually the closest representation of the colors!

*No actual antiques were harmed in this transformation.  The highboy is a reproduction with paperboard dust panels and back.

Rainy Day In the Library

Our daughter is reading Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and I am reading a book written by a friend.
Which reminds me, I hope my dear friend, FreeThinke, will consider putting all his amazing work in book form.  I would really love to spend a lazy day reading it ...

Hipster Blogger At Last!

It has occurred to me that I have been derelict in my duties as a Blogger. Never once have I photographed my breakfast, nor lunch, nor dinner, nor a midday snack. Not even a midnight raid on the refrigerator.

Such a glaring oversight in this new age of social interaction. Well friends, that is about to change! A new dawn, if you will.
No looking back...

Forgive my rudeness for not supplying this image sooner.

I present to you...Breakfast! In this scientifically advanced era of instant photography filters, I wrestled with the perfect enhancement. I settled with a light "Focal"filter, to highlight my breakfast, then a simple "Light" frame to outline the importance of the first meal of the day.

Then I added my Divine Theatre watermark to make it all official and binding. See?

LOL! Honestly, I just thought it was pretty. Mixed fruit with nutmeg and cinnamon.
Pretty, right?

I will happily remain a member of the Counterculture and keep my breakfast to myself. Unless it is really pretty.
Like this is.

Golden Cleaning Tip For Silver!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter Sunday!  We had a lovely day with family.
I just wanted to share a quick tip for polishing silver you may not have tried.
All this silver was polished in five minutes using common household items!

For comparison, see the silver tray in the center of the table.  All the other silver was equally as tarnished.

Easy Steps:

Line sink with aluminum foil

Fill sink with hot water

Add one container table salt

Add half box baking soda

Lower silver into sink

Wait five minutes

Remove silver and lightly wipe off any remaining tarnish

Rinse and dry!

That's it!

No, really!

Puddle-Free Puddles!

I love the look of puddled drapes but there is a certain cat who lives here who thinks puddled drapes have a different meaning.  I will not name names.

I had to throw the drapes away, sadly.

However, I could not keep the new drapes laying over chair backs forever.

I devised a plot.

Beautifully puddled drapes!

Look closer...I pinned the drapes up so they are about an inch above the floor...I intentionally spaced the pins far apart so they droop between the pinned spots...
and this is where the magic comes in!

18 gauge wire.  I used copper, so it won't rust. I tripled it for more strength, then ran it along the bottom, bent it in toward the back at the ends to secure it, (pinching it closed) then "waved" it to mimic the look of puddled drapes...for my drapes I used four feet of wire, (tripled, just wound three lengths and looped at the ends, so as not to poke drape fabric), so the drapes would be wider at the bottom. Without the wire, the drapes would hang straight down.
These drapes are lined and interlined, so they have body and fullness.  If yours aren't, just place crumpled tissue paper or paper towels into the "hemmed" area.

This way I get to keep the drapes and the kitty!  lol  This is also beneficial to those with children or husbands who may accidentally step on puddled drapes.

The illusion is enough to make me happy.

I feel like an evil scientist but in a good way.

Spring In the Dining Room!

Spent a few days brightening up the joint in preparation for Spring celebrations!

Tea cups on the buffet!

I was looking for a place to store them until the tea party but they are too pretty to hide!  The perfect touch of Spring!

Flowers every color of the rainbow!

Pussy willow branches adorned with glass eggs, hung by pastel velvet ribbon.

This secretary will never be finished.  lol
I added birds and garlands.

I am not very good at photographing in bright light.  This is really very pretty in "real life". lol

The glass eggs look almost like dewdrops.

Hallway by the back stairs with topiary bunny resting up for the big day!

It is a beautiful Spring day!  Soon the gardens will beckon!

Zebra Settee; Earning My Stripes

This is a beautiful, well made corbeille sofa.  Solid too.  It would work well in a library with an English theme.  However, it needed a French makeover if it wanted to live in our home!

I kept the upholstery. It was in perfect shape!
This is two coats of Annie Sloan Old White, followed by Clear Wax, then Waverly Antique Wax. The gold detail is DecoArt Venetian Gold.
I used over 20 different paint brushes to get at different angles around the upholstery. Good tools are important.  They also make the work a lot easier.

Step one: No turning back!

Whiter than white.

Late at night, the sofa is done, except for clear and dark wax.

In the light of day! After antique wax is applied.

Delores approves!

The Venetian Gold is my new favorite gold tone!

View from Music Room...

This has to be my favorite project yet!
Working around the upholstery took a great deal of time, but it is work I enjoy.

I honestly don't know how I didn't spill paint all over the upholstery!  I kept envisioning that as I worked.
Every time our new kitty, Delores, walked by, I held on to all my paint and brushes, as if I was in an earthquake.  lol

I have lots and lots and lots more to share with you!  I counted 60 pieces of furniture that I painted in the house.  I couldn't sleep.  That's what I do when I can't sleep.  I don't count sheep because, frankly, sheep jumping over the fence makes me worried.  lol  Who can sleep if the sheep are all running away from home, I ask you?
